Public Relations

Talking to groups (churches, clubs, etc.) about the Red Cross and promoting Red Cross programs.

Needed Skills: Outgoing personality, Willingness to speak in public.

Community Education

Giving presentations to the public on how to prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster.

Needed Skill: Good communication

Fund Raising

Writing grant requests, contacting donors, sales.

Needed Skill: Positive Image

Blood Services

Working at blood drives assisting donors with paperwork and working the canteen.

Needed Skill: A bright smile

Clerical

Working in the office doing light secretarial work (answering phones, typing, filing, etc.)

Needed Skill: Good organization

Drivers

Using your vehicle or chapter van to deliver cots, blankets, or other materials to shelters during disasters or supplies throughout the community.

Needed Skill: Good Driver

Youth

Youth volunteers are a very important part of the Red Cross family and can make a difference in the community by providing a positive role model to others and by helping to promote the services of the Red Cross.

Instructors

The Red Cross needs people to provide training to the community, this includes training in:

Swimming

Life Guarding

CPR and First Aid

HIV/AIDS Education

Disaster Preparedness and Response

Babysitting

Financial Contributor

The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization and could not exist without the continued financial support of the community.

Board of Directors Member

Help to ensure that the chapter meets its corporate responsibilities and addresses specific community needs.

AFES

(Armed Forces Emergency Services)

Providing emergency communication between service people and their families (illness, death, or birth notifications etc.)

Needed Skills: Compassion, clerical

Family Service

Providing direct relief to victims of a disaster by providing the resources and the emotional support they need to alleviate their disaster caused needs

Needed Skills: Compassion, clerical

Mass Care Sheltering

Sheltering and feeding people displaced by disaster.

Needed Skills: Compassion, Positive Outlook, Organization

Damage Assessment

A visual assessment of the damage to homes and business caused by a disaster to help  determine the needs of the affected community.

Needed Skill: Attention to detail

Special Events

Helping to organize, promote or hold a special event such as a volunteer recognition dinner or special fund raiser.

Needed Skill: Good Organization
